jinder mahal vs aj styles smackdown

Who is Favored by Sports Books When Jinder Mahal Defends Against AJ Styles on Smackdown?

The following odds are sourced from 5Dimes, which offers betting to players worldwide. Click here to visit Five Dimes.

UPDATE – Since the odds went slightly in favor of AJ Styles, by the time word got out that there was a title change on RAW last night in Manchester AJ became heavily favored at -900 to Jinder Mahal’s +500. Cesaro and Sheamus becoming tag team champions on a pretaped event showed a willingness by the WWE to have title switch happen knowing spoilers would get out in advance, this could be the reason why the odds went so heavily in AJ’s favor. The long odds didn’t last however, as AJ’s odds decreased overnight. Jinder is now slightly favored at -160 to successfully defend the WWE Championship on Smackdown. There’s no indication that any of this is due to possible leaked finishes, but rather a run from gamblers backing Jinder and getting $5 for every $1 wagered on a possible victory. AJ Styles’ odds are currently +120, meaning a $100 bet upon success would win $120.

There are actually betting odds available for Tuesday’s Smackdown WWE Championship match between defending champion Jinder Mahal and challenger AJ Styles. This isn’t the first time odds makers took on a Smackdown match. This first happened over the Summer when John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura faced off on television. Cena was favored early on, but Nakamura prevailed.

For Tuesday’s match the initial odds were and even bet, with both Mahal and Styles set at -120. The odds changed almost immediately and AJ is now a slight favorite at -155 to Jinder’s +115. As always, because this is a championship match, this doesn’t mean The Phenomenal One is favored to walk out of Smackdown as Champion due to the “champion’s advantage” of titles not changing hands due to a DQ or count out.

It’s also worth mentioning that The Maharajah has overcome long odds in the past during this championship reign. Another factor to consider is that Jinder is set to face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series in a “champion vs champion” match. Styles winning the title could change that and some could argue that with AJ having more star power than Jinder, this would make for a more intriguing match and be more of a money draw. On the other hand, WWE is obviously firmly behind Mahal and a win over AJ would only elevate him further.

Once again, these odds are available at 5Dimes, where it’s free to register and no deposit or obligation to place wagers is required for those that simply want to follow the odds and see how they move. Players are accepted all over the world and bets can as low as 50 cents. This particular match is worth following because it could go in any direction. Usually odds close right as the match is starting, however this is being pretaped at the Manchester Arena in England, so these odds are likely to close before Smackdown airs.

My WWE BackLash Predictions

The odds aren’t out yet, but I like to write up my guesses on who will come out on top at WWE PPV’s.  Here are my picks for WWE BackLash on Sunday May 21st!

Shinsuke Nakamura vs [clink id=”33″ target=”_blank”]Dolph Ziggler[/clink] – Nakamura all the way

SmackDown Women’s Champion [clink id=”34″ target=”_blank”]Naomi[/clink], [clink id=”21″ target=”_blank”]Charlotte Flair[/clink] & [clink id=”8″ target=”_blank”]Becky Lynch[/clink] vs. [clink id=”35″ target=”_blank”]Natalya[/clink], Carmella & Tamina (Six-Woman Tag Team Match) – So confused as to why Charlotte is on the baby face team. I have a feeling she will turn on her teammates. I give this to Natalya, Carmella, and Tamina.

United States Champion [clink id=”17″ target=”_blank”]Kevin Owens[/clink] vs. [clink id=”30″ target=”_blank”]AJ Styles[/clink] – Owens is losing that belt… AJ will be the new US Champion!

SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. Breezango – While Breezango looks fabulous, I don’t think they are as comfortable with each other as a tag team as the Usos are. Usos will retain the titles.

WWE Champion [clink id=”10″ target=”_blank”]Randy Orton[/clink] vs. Jinder Mahal – Jinder Mahal is killing it these days, but will his skills match up against Orton’s cunning ways? If he doesn’t fall into a trap, he may be able to beat Orton, but knowing Orton, he will put up a fight, and pull every trick out to retain his title. Orton will retain the WWE Championship.

What is Bray Wyatt’s House of Horrors Match?

The next Smackdown branded WWE PPV Backlash on May 21, 2017 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. That give 7 weeks of build for this event, which has been unheard of for decades. There will be a RAW branded PPV in the interim, Payback in San Jose, CA on April 30.

Despite this stretch until Backlash, Smackdown already seems to be building towards the main event, a Wrestlemania rematch. Bray Wyatt is invoking his rematch clause against Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. Cryptic as ever, Wyatt has challenged Orton to a unique specialty match that no one seems to know the rules to but Bray himself.

I want to fight in a different kind of match.

One that will not only push your body,

but it will push your mind as well.

I promise I’m going to drive you to a new level of insanity.

You will be twisted far more than you’ve been twisted before.

Not just mentally, but physically as well in what I like to call a House of Horrors match.”

  • Bray Wyatt, Smackdown 4/4/17

Randy has readily accepted, despite not knowing the nature of this match. What will be revealed about this mysterious bout in the weeks leading to Backlash? It’s worth mentioning that though the challenge has been accepted, it has not been officially announced for Backlash as of press time. There has been much speculation about what exactly a “House of Horrors” match will entail.

Some early speculation is that this will be very similar to an “Asylum Match”, innovated by Dean Ambrose against Chris Jericho at Extreme Rules last year. This match saw a cage with weapons suspended above for the taking. This seems like a non-creative route to go for a main event match. The Asylum Match was not a main event and it wasn’t exactly praised as a match concept.

Could this be a match held outside of the arena in a remote location like a haunted mansion or even a return to to the Wyatt Compound? Probably not.

This match could very well be inspired by the WCW Halloween Havoc 1991 opener of Sting, El Gigante, & The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott Steiner) Vs. Big Van Vader, Cactus Jack, Abdullah The Butcher, & The Diamond Studd. The climax here saw Abdullah being electrified after being strapped into an electric chair that descended into the ring. [clink id=”2″ target=”_blank”]You can actually watch this match on the[/clink] WWE Network [clink id=”2″ target=”_blank”]by clicking here[/clink].

The most likely scenario with what we currently know is this will be a special effects match. Expect similar pageantry to the light effects the encapsulated the canvas at Wrestlemania or Wyatt’s ability to teleport. It’s an experimental match type that could fail miserably, but is a risk worth taking because it could end up being well received as part of the evolution of pro wrestling.
