Anthem Sports & Entertainment Forms Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions, LLC., Acquires Control of IMPACT Wrestling

Toronto, Canada (January 4, 2017) – Anthem Sports & Entertainment Corp. today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a majority interest in TNA IMPACT Wrestling, and has formed Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions, LLC. Anthem also owns Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 multi-platform channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, which is IMPACT Wrestling’s exclusive broadcast partner in Canada and worldwide digital partner.

“We are thrilled to have acquired TNA IMPACT Wrestling,” said Ed Nordholm, Executive Vice President of Anthem Sports & Entertainment Corp., the parent of Fight Network. “As we grow Anthem’s linear, digital and mobile platforms globally, top tier content with global appeal is key to that success and this acquisition is a perfect strategic addition to our portfolio. IMPACT has been a dominant wrestling brand around the world for more than a decade and we are confident that Anthem can leverage its assets and strategic partnerships to take IMPACT Wrestling to even greater heights.”

Mr. Nordholm, who has been the managing director of the IMPACT Ventures Board of Managers since October 2016, will assume the position of President of Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions, LLC. Dixie Carter will resign from her position as Chairman of Impact Ventures and join the Advisory Board of Fight Media Group, which holds all of the combat sports-related assets of Anthem, where her focus will be on the global growth of the combat sports-related brands owned by Anthem.

“Anthem has been a great partner for many years,” added Dixie Carter. “We have worked hard to find the right company who would acquire TNA, use its strategic influence and have a long-term commitment to the brand. TNA’s incredible fans, talent and staff deserved to see the brand continue to thrive after 15+ years of incredible growth. I’m excited to move to a new position and work with Anthem on their global strategic plan, and I am confident TNA IMPACT Wrestling is going to be a huge part of their success.”

Ms. Carter will remain a minority equity stakeholder.

Homicide Charges Against Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka

Breaking News from The Morning Call

The 34-year mystery surrounding Nancy Argentino’s death may forever remain unsolved now that a Lehigh County judge has dismissed homicide charges against retired WWE wrestler Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka.

During a closed-door hearing in Allentown Tuesday, Judge Kelly L. Banach granted defense attorney Robert Kirwan’s motion to end the case, which stalled in June when the judge found Snuka, 73, incompetent to stand trial.

Rest In Peace Karen Belcher

This was the background photo on her profile, and it seemed to be an appropriate sentiment.

If you were involved in or attended wrestling shows in New Jersey and PA, you may have come across Karen Belcher at one of these shows. We just lerned of her passing. She was well known to and liked by independent wrestlers who she helped promote through Pro Wrestling Digest. She was often armed with her camera at these events, taking photos of all the workers. I’ve personally been friends with Karen for 11 years, and we mostly spoke online. I really had a lot of love for that woman and all she did for us. She was the definition of wonderful human being. Thank you Karen!

Big Show Death

WWE News and Rumors 12/29/2016

WWE News and Rumors         December 29 2016

  • Big Show has not died. There was some “fake news” going around on facebook as usual and this hoax was especially disturbing. Big Show is currently preparing for a match with Shaq at Wrestlemania 33.
  •  WWE.com removed a poll asking who fans desire to see main event Wrestlemania 33. AJ Styles was leading at 40% and no one else came close.
  •  Mick Foley needs hip surgery and is holding off as he is currently uninsured. The out of pocket expenses are about $60K. Foley has an estimated net worth of 15 Million Dollars.
  •  Chris Hero will be in San Antonio during Royal Rumble weekend. This is most likely to debut for NXT Takeover San Antonio.
  •  Curtis Axel brought back the Axelmania gimmick Tuesday in St Louis. This is more evidence for the return of Hulk Hogan as the gimmick was dropped due to bad publicity that led to the Hulkster being released last year. Also on the show, Roman Reigns defeated Kevin Owens while defending his US Championship.
  •  John Cena wrestled a post-dark match at Smackdown Live! teaming with Dean Ambrose to defeat AJ Styles and The Miz.
  •  John Cena also wrestled Monday Night at Madison Square Garden, in a Triple Threat Match with he and Dean Ambrose challenging AJ Styles for the WWE Championship. AJ successfully retained. Also on the show, James Ellsworth in a neck brace defeated Curt Hawkins in under 20 seconds with No Chin Music.
  •  Goldberg is currently on a three match deal in WWE, not including his match with Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.
  •  Cody Rhodes took issue with WWE producers for having Karl Anderson rip the head of a teddy bear with the likeness of Dusty Rhodes.
  •  Dave Meltzer reports that WWE has no concrete plans for Roman Reigns for Wrestlemania 33 although a big surprise is in the works, though it probably won’t happen.

WWE Roadblock Results

Cesaro and Sheamus beat The New Day to become the new Tag Team Champions, and destroy their reign as longest title holders.

Sami Zayn outlasted Braun Strowman for the predetermined 10 minute time limit. (Stupid stipulation IMO) At one point in the match Mick Foley came to ringside with the towel, the audience chanted to him “Save his life” as Sami took a good amount of punishment tonight.

Seth Rollins beat Chris Jerocho after Kevin Owens came to ringside. Was a bit disappointed as this was a kitchen sink match, where they pulled  every move out of their arsenal, but not in a way that made me care. Also I am worried about Chris Jericho, his face color wasn’t good.

Rich Swan retains the Cruiserweight Championship over Brian Kendrick and TJ Perkins.

30 minute IronWoman Match: Charlotte  scores the first fall with only 10 minutes left in the match… Sasha Banks scores a fall with 8:21 left in the match…Sasha locks in the Banks Stateent scores another fall with  6 minutes left… Charlotte locks in a figure 4, with 2 minutes to go, holds it in until thete was 4 econds left, Sasha tapped, tying the match, timeran out leading to SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME !!! Sasha banks attempts the bank statement again, Charlotte reversed it into a figure 4 neck bridge, and Sasha had no choice to tap.    Charlotte is the new womens champion, and Sasha has a bloody nose.

Kevin Owens retains championship by dq because of Jerichos interference. Seth Rollins came out to start shit as well, and Roman Reigns threw Jericho through one of the announce tables, then he and Rollins teamed up on Owens and threw hin through a table (We have a lot of announce tables these days, waiting for them to go through Funakis table so he can beat them… )

I enjoyed the Womens match the most, followed by tag and cruiserweights. The main event was ok, but lackluster for a PPV match. I expect more from them. overall it was a decent show.
